Are the Doors Really Open?

Open-door policies only work if employees truly feel that managers are approachable.

Virtually every company promotes the concept of having an open-door policy in which employees at all levels are encouraged to approach managers with their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions.  Unfortunately, there can be an unintentional wide gap between the policy and reality often caused by the hectic pace of business.  In many cases, employees do not feel comfortable “bothering” managers with their issues.
