New employee managers need to provide special help and attention well past the first day.

Although the excitement of bringing a new person on board may quickly fade in the minds of the current employees and even the hiring manager, the new employee will probably be overwhelmed with the learning curve they need to climb and the high expectations they have set for themselves.  Often tied up in their daily activities, managers need to make a point to initiate contact and make themselves and others available to new hires during their first several weeks of employment.  That initial period will set the course for the new person’s future with the company.
