New product announcements can cause short-term revenue slumps.

Launching replacement products can have significant financial impacts on the business as prospects reconsider their options.  Some prospects may immediately embrace the new product, others may take a wait-and-see attitude, while others may explore entirely different alternatives.  Fulfillment delays associated with flushing inventory, restocking the distribution channel, or increasing the new product production capacity can also have significant financial impacts long after the initial product announcement.  All of these issues need to be considered in the product announcement process.
