To be successful, empowerment relies on the simple principles of trust, commit, and perform.

Empowerment is an often-used term that, for many, rings hollow.  Individuals, for political reasons, cannot openly criticize its use but have often been disappointed with the outcomes.  A simple method to break this negative mindset is to begin the cycle of “trust-commit-perform” in which managers give latitude to individuals to complete a given task that has clearly been stated and with the desired result expectations equally as clear.  In most cases, individuals will rise to the challenge and probably exceed expectations.
