Unplanned events invariably occur. Think about what could happen and how you will respond.

Expecting the unexpected needs to be the mindset when developing and implementing strategic plans.  As events unfold, they seldom follow the carefully thought-out plans that lead to the desired strategic results.  As part of the strategy formulation process, it is prudent to project different scenarios and then predict their impacts on the strategic plans.  Consideration should be given to both the likelihood and impact of the events in each scenario.  Using these scenarios as a basis, plans to avoid, monitor, and respond to them can then be developed to increase the resilience of the plans.
