Develop a strategy and plan for the sales team and then get out of their way.
Turning over a new product or service offering to a ready and willing sales team is an exciting event for everyone in the company. Others in the organization look forward to receiving positive confirmation from the market that their efforts were worthwhile. The sales team is equally excited about doing what they are hired to do – sell. Before the sales team is unleashed, take some time to consider what you want them to do, how they should do it, and when. This may sound obvious but it is often neglected as the new product availability finish line is approached and the sales race begins.
