There are advantages and pitfalls in recruiting individuals with vastly different work experiences.
Recruiting individuals with significantly different past work experience can positively impact an organization by bringing in new ideas or approaches that have successfully worked in other sectors. However, the change may be difficult, uncomfortable, or even untenable for new individuals. We all get used to routines, especially those with known successful outcomes. When those past routines are required to change due to a new environment, trouble can occur. Recognizing and discussing this potential issue is a critical element in the recruiting process.
