Use a methodical approach when strategic planning to help make conscious business decisions.

Most companies develop formal sales pipeline management processes and follow documented product marketing announcement plans.  However, strategic planning activities are often far less defined, with the excuse given that there are too many future variables that can have significant impacts.  To be fair, the future is indeed unknown, but many basic questions can be considered, each with probable outcomes.  When examined carefully, these questions can lead to a reasonable overall plan.  Embracing a consistent, methodical approach in the development of strategies can create innovative opportunities rather than simply turning the crank and predicting some annualized composite growth rate that can feed a financial model.
