Documentation: Sooner Not Later

Documentation plans and timing are as important as the product development plan itself.

If not treated as an afterthought, internal and external documentation efforts are often delayed or not given the proper attention to help ensure the entire development life cycle results in a successful product as determined by end users.  In addition to the lack of timely focus, many documentation efforts are conducted by separate, often isolated groups within an organization.  Far more effective results can be obtained by involving individuals with different perspectives in the process.
