Minimize the time between the announcement and the departure of an employee.

After the decision is made by either the employee or the company for an employee to leave a company, it is in both party’s best interest to minimize the transition period.  Unless there is a serious breach by the employee, allowing for some transition of responsibilities is the norm and should occur, but that length of time should be minimized.  Instead of relying on a standard period of notice, typically set as two weeks, the transition time should be determined on a case-by-case basis, considering the desires of both parties.
