Missed forecasts, unfortunately, are far more common than achieving forecasted results. In most cases, actions are taken when the actual missed forecast either has occurred or becomes obvious, with remedial action next to impossible to implement. During the planning process, it is prudent to identify likely reasons for performance deviations and the resources that could be added to avoid them. Understanding the deviation’s true cost can significantly impact when developing preventative alternatives.
