Keep it Personal

Announcing salary adjustments individually rather than collectively is a major motivation factor.

Especially in larger organizations, periodic salary adjustments are often made on a macro level, occurring at the same time within strict guidelines.  This approach denies managers the opportunity to interact personally with each employee and reflect on their performance and contribution to the organization.  The dollar amount of the adjustment may not be motivating, but the discussions more than likely would be.
