Org Chart Messages

Organization charts can easily send some inadvertent negative messages.

Organization charts are meant to define the roles and responsibilities of individuals within the various functional departments.  Initially, as a company is formed and begins to grow, everyone knows everyone and understands “Who does what.”  However, as an organization grows, incomers do not have institutional knowledge or history.  An org chart is intended to be a vehicle to share that information.  However, inadvertently, org charts can send some subtle, negative messages.  Clearly, that is not the company’s intent.  Following a few simple practices can avoid many of these negative perceptions.
