Leading and managing are two different activities that the CEO must perform simultaneously.
The CEO must take on the roles of both a leader and a manager. They must perform both roles simultaneously and consistently. Others within the organization may have the luxury of focusing on one or the other of these roles, letting others take on the other. Independent of the simultaneous or separate focus on these roles, the CEO must, through their actions, demonstrate and require that all individuals embrace two core characteristics: operating beyond reproach and being held accountable.
